The history of Mother’s Day – in five parts

April 28, 2010 at 5:10 am (History)

I had a goal this evening – to write on Mother’s Day and Cinco de Mayo.  It’s 11pm and I’ve been writing on Mother’s Day the whole time.  Who knew it was so complex and convoluted?  But now we know who really got the whole thing started.

Here’s the story – in five parts.

History of Mother’s Day – who was the real founder?

History of Mother’s Day – more celebrations in the ancient world

History of Mother’s Day – Anne Marie Reeves Jarvis and the Mother’s Day work clubs

History of Mother’s Day – Julia Ward Howe and the Mother’s day proclamation

History of Mother’s Day – Anne Jarvis and Mother’s day as we know it

And a Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers, past and present, and to the mothers yet to be.
